After spending a wonderful week exploring Bali, it has become one of my favourite travel destinations.
Here are 10 things every Muslim should know before visiting Bali.
Make sure to check out my Bali Muslim Travel Guide for more tips on where to eat, pray and stay!
1. Bali is Majority Hindu
Bali itself is majority Hindu. Expect to see lots of Hindu idols and temples ALL over the island.
You will come across flower offerings on the ground almost everywhere you walk. These are called “Canang Sari” and they are an offering the Balinese Hindus make to God. Be respectful of the religion and culture.
˹O believers!˺ Do not insult what they invoke besides Allah or they will insult Allah spitefully out of ignorance…
Suran Al-Anam, Verse 108
2. Bali is safe
Bali is a safe, muslim friendly travel destination.
Bali is a small island in Indonesia and Indonesia happens to be the largest Muslim majority country in the world.
Take normal safety precautions like you would anywhere.
3. There are many towns, each with its own charm.
Bali is split into different towns. Each has its own benefits and unique travel experiences.
Kuta, Ubud, Seminyak, Nusa Dua and others.
Do your research about what you want to see and do before booking your hotels. Check out the detailed Bali Travel Guide for ideas.
4. Halal Food in Bali
Halal food is fairly easy to come by in Bali.
All the big food chains like McDonalds, Harveys and Burger King all offer Halal food and you don’t have to worry about them being Halal, because they are government regulated.
5. Traffic can be BAD
Bali has become an extremely popular travel destination which in turn means that traffic can be very bad at times.
Travelling from Ubud to Kuta can take up to 2 hours at times.
6. Muslims in Bali
Bali has a small Muslim Population and you will come across Mosques. Make sure to check them out and pray in congregation with your fellow Balinese Muslims brothers and sisters.
7. The Balinese People
The Balinese people are one of the nicest people I have met. The drivers, airport staff and hotel staff were all incredibly hospitable.
8. Bali Airport
Bali Airport is called Denpasar and goes by the airport code DPS.
There are multiple prayer rooms at Bali Airport. You will see signs for the prayer room throughout the airport.
9. Affordable Luxury
Bali is known for its private luxurious villas. Finding a place to stay with a private pool and extra privacy is actually not that hard to find. This makes Bali an ideal honeymoon destination for Muslim couples looking for extra privacy.
10. Check out the Muslim Bali Travel Guide
I have put together a Muslim Bali Travel Guide for other Muslims who wish to explore this beautiful island in Indonesia. In it you will find helpful travel tips, how to eat Halal and where to pray.
