Terengganu
The Muslim Travel Guide to Terengganu
Terengganu is a laid back and relaxed state on the eastern side of Malaysia known for its beautiful Islands and resorts. If you’re looking to lay back, relax and escape the busyness of Kuala Lumpur and Penang, then Terengganu is a worthwhile trip. The majority of the action happens in Kuala Terengganu, the state capital. Eastern parts of Malaysia like Terenganny and Kelantan are predominantly Muslim. You will find these areas to be a lot more conservative and traditional. Make sure to read the detailed Malaysia Muslim Travel Guide first for some very valuable information before traveling.

Accommodation
Airbnb is a great option for booking accommodation in Terengganu. I stayed in a large 3 bedroom apartment with a beautiful Seaview. You can check out the property and other properties on Airbnb.
Agoda is one of the best websites when it comes to booking hotels. Over and over again, I come back to Agoda for competitive rates and I usually find it to always have the lowest rate. If you prefer staying in hotels, then check Agoda for competitive night rates in Terengganu.
How to stay safe
Terengganu is safe. The majority of the state is Muslim and crime is low. Take normal safety precautions as you would anywhere else.
General Tips
- I would only recommend coming to Terenganny if you have a long stay in Malaysia. It’s a quiet city with not too many things to do.
- Avoid visiting during monsoon season. The islands are inaccessible are the beaches are too dangerous to swim in.
Fun Facts
- Quran is recited before every prayer on a loudspeaker.
- The weekends are on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is a workday.
