MyDuaa
This app is absolutely a must for any Muslim traveller. It has a beautiful UI and is packed with 100% authentic duas from the Quran and Sunnah. You can find dua’s about almost any topic, with Arabic, English translation and transliteration. Dua’s also come with professionally recorded audio. Instead of carrying a physical book in your pocket everywhere, save the space and get the app!
Athan Pro
You’ll need to know the times for prayer as you travel through different timezones and you’ll also need to know where the Qibla is. Lots of great apps available that do just that. I personally use Athan Pro.
Quran Pro
A Quran app is a must-have app for any Muslim Traveller. Recite, listen and ponder as you go on your journey. Quran Pro is my favorite because if offers high-quality audio recitation for tons of world-renowned reciters. The paid version of the app is worth the investment because it gives you download capabilities making it easy to listen when you don’t have an internet connection.
Google Maps
Google Maps comes in very helpful when searching for halal restaurants, masjids, and any other tourist spot. It’s easy to use maps that will find your routes for walking, driving, public transit, biking and will even help you book an Uber or Lyft.
Pro tip: Make sure to download the offline version of the map when traveling you are not dependent on data services when on the road.
Google Photos
Google Photos gives its user unlimited storage for all their photos on their phones. It’s absolutely free and gives you peace of mind that your pictures are safe in the event your phone gets lost, stolen or damaged. Google Photos also comes in super handy when you have limited local storage on your device. Once the pictures have been uploaded onto the cloud you can delete the local copy on the device to free up space.
Uber | Lyft | Grab
It’s no secret that ridesharing is the way of the future. It’s more affordable than a traditional taxi, the apps are robust with great user experience and on top of all this, it is safe. Many airports now have dedicated rideshare pick up locations as well. Unfortunately, there are some cities that do not allow ride-sharing so make sure you are aware before you plan your trip.
AirBnB
Similar to ridesharing, AirBnB is your solution to affordable lodging. What is great about AirBnB is that it gives you the opportunity to meet a local in the area and get insider information about the city you are in.
Google Translate
This one is a no brainer. If you travel somewhere where you don’t speak the language, Google Translate is your personal translator.
Audible
Audible is a complete game-changer. It can increase your productivity during any trip by allowing you to finish multiple books by listening to the audio version. Instead of listening to music give audiobooks a try.
Blinkist
Blinkist is another awesome productivity app that needs to be in on every Muslims app arsenal. Blinkist takes entire books and summarizes them into a few short pages called “Blinks”. These blinks give you a good insight into the key concepts shared by the author. They have over 3000 non-fiction books to choose from and you can get started with a free trial. If you want to give Blinkist a shot before you commit to a paid subscription you can read the one free book they offer every day.
Trip Advisor
You may be familiar with the Trip Advisor website but what you may not be aware of is that they have an excellent mobile app. The best thing about the app is the keyword search feature that lets you find comments with specific words. For example, if you want to know if a certain location offers a halal place to eat or if there is prayer room available, you can type “halal” or “prayer” in the comments search box to find comments from those who have asked or shared information of those keywords.
